Greetings!
Welcome to the Official Website of the Berkeley Bay Area Alumnae Chapter of
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Service has been at the heart of the Berkeley Bay Area Alumnae Chapter for more than nine decades. We are honored to continue that tradition by working alongside our members, community partners, and neighbors to create opportunities, strengthen communities, and improve lives throughout the Bay Area.
Whether you are visiting our digital home to learn more about our chapter, explore partnership opportunities, or reconnect as a visiting soror, I am delighted to welcome you. We are pleased to share the story of a chapter whose members are committed to making a meaningful difference throughout the Bay Area. I hope you will find both inspiration and a sense of connection here.
For more than 90 years, the Berkeley Bay Area Alumnae Chapter has brought women together in service to our communities. Since six visionary women chartered our chapter on March 30, 1934, generations of members have built upon that foundation through leadership, advocacy, scholarship, and service. Today, our membership of more than 140 women proudly continues that tradition while responding to the opportunities and challenges of our time.
Our chapter is one of more than 1,000 chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., an organization founded in 1913 by 22 trailblazing collegiate women at Howard University. Their courage and commitment established a legacy of public service that continues to inspire Delta women around the world and guides our work here in the Bay Area.
Guided by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.'s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust, our chapter addresses the evolving needs of our communities through programs and initiatives focused on:
Δ Economic Development
Δ Educational Development
Δ International Awareness and Involvement
Δ Physical and Mental Health
Δ Political Awareness and Involvement
I believe that our greatest accomplishments are achieved not simply through the programs we deliver, but through the relationships we build. Lasting change is possible when people come together with a shared purpose, a spirit of collaboration, and a commitment to serving something greater than themselves. Within our chapter, we are committed to fostering a culture that values mutual respect, excellence, accountability, and grace. We believe that the way we do our work is just as important as the work itself. When people feel welcomed, heard, respected, and supported, they are empowered to contribute their unique talents, strengthen our sisterhood, and better serve our communities.
We also recognize that meaningful progress requires strong partnerships. We look forward to working alongside community organizations, civic leaders, and residents to address the evolving needs of Berkeley and the greater Bay Area. Together, we can create opportunities that empower individuals, strengthen families, and improve the well-being of our communities.
Whether you are interested in partnering with us, participating in our programs, reconnecting with our chapter, or simply learning more about our work, I invite you to explore our website and discover the many ways we are making a difference together. I hope you will return often as we continue honoring our legacy - not only by preserving it, but by expanding it through service, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those we are privileged to serve.
On behalf of the members of the Berkeley Bay Area Alumnae Chapter, thank you for your interest in our work and for joining us on this journey of service.
In Service and Leadership,
Dr. Valerie Yerger
Chapter President
