Children’s Book Club
The Children’s Book Club strives to promote literacy among elementary level students through reading circles, comprehension and vocabulary building activities. We encourage students to involve their families in reading by supplying take-home activities and assignments to share. We make sure that all students who participate can build their own home libraries by providing them with books after each book club meeting.
At the end of each meeting, there is an opportunity for students to earn “book bucks”, rewarded “dollars”, which they can apply toward the purchase of books and school supplies. Students can earn “book bucks” by attending the book club meetings, participating in the readings and activities, and by encouraging their schoolmates to attend.
Meetings are held every other month at Marcus Book Store in Oakland, California.
